Montessori Behavioral Objectives

By Terri Sherrill

To develop healthy self-respect. This does not mean the same thing as being selfish. It means be careful in your choices and do not allow yourself to do things that are harmful or counter productive to your well being. Educate yourself, discipline yourself, and prepare yourself.

To develop respect for others and all living things.

To develop respect and recognition for the parents, teachers and adults in their lives that work for their benefit and realize their contribution and good intentions.

To understand the concept that they are members and contributors of communities (familial, local and global) that sustain them.

To understand that their deeds have an impact, often not only on themselves, but others as well.

To develop a love for learning. Begin to recognize and enjoy their personal growth and appreciate who they are becoming as they learn and grow.

To gain the ability for extended work time and concentration.

To understand that the more responsibly one behaves, the more freedom one has.

To find that learning and pursuit of knowledge is one of life’s greatest pleasures and that the act of living life to its fullest in each moment is our greatest gift.

To realize that they were born with unique talents and strengths and that their ability to live their authentic life, fulfilling their potential and destiny, remains beautifully in tact.
