The Montessori Foundation

The Montessori Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement of Montessori education in the United States and abroad.

The Foundation was established in 1992 to create an independent source of assistance, encouragement, and support for the international Montessori community.

The Montessori Foundation works with the entire Montessori community, regardless of affiliation, as well as parents, educators, schools, and school systems that are interested in learning more about the insights, research, and approach pioneered by Dr. Maria Montessori.

The International Montessori Council

The International Montessori Council (IMC) is an international organization of Montessori schools, the men and women who lead them, own them, or serve on their boards, and other organizations interested in supporting the goals of the IMC. As an independent Montessori professional and accrediting organization, the IMC serves the entire Montessori community.

The Montessori Family Alliance

The Montessori Family Alliance is a partnership of Montessori parents who want to learn more about Montessori and how to support their children at school and at home. It provides 24/7 access to expert information, access to free webinars, and aims to unify the Montessori community through many varied resources.

Our Hearts Grieve

We join the nation in grieving the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, as well as the deaths of Breonna Taylor, a first responder in Louisville, Kentucky, shot in her own bed; Ahmaud Arbery, shot while jogging near Brunswick, Georgia; and far too many other black men and women, who have been the victim of racist action in our nation. The International Montessori Council (IMC) and the Montessori Foundation are committed to advancing world peace, equity, inclusion, and diversity. We recognize that these are not isolated incidents but emblematic of a longstanding, egregious pattern of systemic racism – and we stand against it. We must dedicate ourselves to the achievement of real justice and equality for all, because injustice and inequality—against even one person—diminishes all of us.

We recognize that it is not enough for us to reject racism. We must be committed to fighting it, to eradicating it on individual and systemic levels.

The Montessori Foundation Hosts Virtual Town Hall On Ending Systematic Racism

The International Montessori Council (IMC) and the Montessori Foundation are hosting a weekly, virtual Montessori Town Hall on the topic of “Standing Together —Our Role in Ending Systematic and Internal Racism” starting today, June 5th, at 3 pm EST. The IMC and Montessori Foundation are committed to advancing world peace, equity, inclusion, and diversity.  Both organizations recognize and acknowledge the internal work we all must do. To that end, they are forming a social justice task force that will address and act on: the inner work of every Montessori teacher, parent, and leader to root out unconscious habits of prejudicial thinking and ideologies, a social justice curriculum and the instructional changes we must bring into every prepared environment and teacher education program, changing our schools’ culture, communications, hiring, and professional development practices and norms, to be more equitable, diverse, and inclusive. Click the link below to register and join via Zoom.

Leadership Strategies in a Time of Crisis

Chart Your Path Back to Stability

Join a small cohort of leaders from schools similar in size and program scope to your own, in weekly 90-minute sessions on crisis management and contingency planning, facilitated by Montessori Foundation school consultants.

The Montessori Foundation’s senior consultants have volunteered their time to assist thousands of schools through the initial phase of responding to the Covid-19 crisis. At this point, as schools look ahead, more and more school leaders are asking us to provide additional one-on-one school consultation and coaching.

There are not enough hours in the day to meet that demand. So, in response, we are offering a small cohort group setting on an economical monthly subscription basis. This model will be more affordable and practical while still providing expert advice and individualized support.

Cohort consultants will guide their groups to identify and develop practical solutions and viable strategies for school survival and stabilization.

Our initial team of Consultation Cohort Leaders will include Dr. Cindy AckerAndrew KuttKathy Leitch, MaryBeth RicksTim SeldinKristina Torres, and Dr. Val Wise. Many more of our consulting team will be joining us in a few weeks.

Participants Will Have the Opportunity To:

  • Present their school’s current challenges.
  • Receive personalized support, strategies, and resources from The Montessori Foundation’s team of senior Montessori school consultants.
  • Participate in in-depth discussions and results-oriented planning about tuition, enrollment, fundraising, home-based programming, parent relations, staff retention and morale, and the path back to normal operations.
